Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

The preview shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and assisting giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
