Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who took the championship lead from Piastri by a single point after winning in the Mexican Grand Prix two weeks ago, topped the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before the sprint shootout due at 6:30 PM GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he rotated at the fourth corner early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the exit kerbs before rotating through the escape zone, and was fortunate to avoid just a light touch of the barrier.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the very end of the practice, rotating twice through the quick descending Mergulho turn approaching the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran wrapped up in 19th place, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were significantly quicker of the remaining drivers, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, over half a second off Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
