An extensive two-month voyage through the Australian Coast is being halted days after the death of an elderly female passenger who was stranded by the vessel on a isolated coastal location.

The elderly woman had been trekking on the remote island with shipmates from the vessel, but parted ways from the excursion for a pause. The vessel left without her and came back several hours later after the crew realised the woman was not present.

An extensive hunt found her body the following day.

Officials are investigating the incident, together with law enforcement and the official investigator.

The CEO of the cruise operator said that travelers and staff on the ship were notified that the rest of the journey had been terminated due to the "sad loss and previous engine troubles".

Through an announcement, he further stated that guests would be issued a complete reimbursement, and said the company was working "to arrange the travel back of the individuals via private aircraft".

Officials also issued an latest communication, and said they had "provided a order to the Captain" banning any new passengers from boarding the ship.

The official said that they would visit the liner in Cairns upon its coming back.

The liner initially left the coastal city on the 24th of October, and was just two days into the expedition at the point of the senior passenger's death. The tropical location was the initial destination on the itinerary.

The offspring of the deceased woman said that her family was "surprised and saddened that the liner left the island after an organised tour without my mother".
