Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Group
Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, demons, and sinister influences increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled
The third episode concluded with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of heroes who will split off from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.
This warrior group consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that having everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Overture, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for players who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.
Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might look out of place, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are best suited for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
For one thing, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a intense first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.
Casimir then settled his debts and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, wants revenge.
- Kattigan knows the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead saved him, have no other options.
- But, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could help the party access places they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character vowed a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now go with him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:
- Thimble and The character are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- Teor is marked for death by the family.
This results in them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in search of the antagonist.
What’s Next?
From episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Explorers and Schemers groups.
